The approach taken by Le Champ des Possibles collective breaks with the myth that mastery of drawing and the act of building is, by simple transposition, sufficient for educational transmission. Far from being a natural extension of practice in an architectural practice or of academic research, teaching requires specific skills: it demands that one deconstruct one’s own knowledge in order to make it intelligible and communicable.
Following the third edition of its summer school, Le Champ des Possibles collective organised two study days devoted to teaching in architecture schools, with the aim of putting teaching methods into perspective in light of the contemporary transformations of the profession.
At the heart of these reflections lies a key question: ‘How can the art of building be passed on?’.
Three points of focus structured the round-table discussions
• Point 1 : Entering the world of architecture: timeless fundamentals.
• Point 2 : Architecture in flux: towards a pedagogy in transition.
• Point 3 : Teaching outside the box: architecture beyond the school.
