In 2004, at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Nancy, the Architecture and Heritage Week was created — an event dedicated to contemporary architectural work within existing structures, organised in close collaboration with regional stakeholders in architecture, heritage and urban planning. Twenty years on, the time has come to take stock of the experiences developed within this teaching framework and to assess what has been gained from this experiential pedagogical approach.
But beyond this initial retrospective aim — illustrated by the photographic series produced for the occasion by Ludmilla Cerveny — the ambition of this book is to offer a broader, forward-looking perspective on the many issues surrounding heritage and its teaching, explored through interviews with seven patron architects committed to a situated approach to architecture.
As the 2021 patron of Architecture and Heritage Week, Claudia Devaux contributed to the publication alongside Hakima El Kaddioui, Aurélie Husson, Lucile Pierron, Gaëlle Perraudin, Pierre Hebbelinck, Charlotte Hubert, Grichka Martinetti, Salima Naji, Philippe Prost, Bernard Quirot and Florian Hertweck.
